Overview
What an AI assistant does in TOWeb, and the four golden rules to know before you start.
Connected to TOWeb, your AI assistant becomes a web designer you talk to. It creates and edits your sites in TOWeb: pages, text, images, shop, styles and translations, all the way to publication, with your consent. It uses the same features as you do: everything it does can then be adjusted in TOWeb, as if you had done it yourself.
Fully driving TOWeb with an AI assistant is included in the Studio edition. In the other editions, you can try it: the assistant creates and builds complete websites before your eyes. During the trial, it only edits the websites it created, marked “AI trial”: your hand-made websites stay untouched, it can only read them or make a copy of them. A website created during the trial can be published with the Studio edition, without redoing anything. See The TOWeb 15 editions.
The four golden rules
- Open TOWeb before the assistant. You then see every change live, and you can undo it. With TOWeb closed, the assistant works on your site files; it joins you as soon as you open TOWeb on the same site.
- Open a new conversation after adding TOWeb. A conversation started earlier doesn’t know about TOWeb.
- Choose “Always allow” for TOWeb. Otherwise, the assistant asks your permission for every action, dozens of times per site.
- Plan on a paid subscription to your AI assistant. The free plans of AI assistants are enough to try it out, but their quota often runs out before a site is finished: you then have to wait several hours to continue.
What you need
- TOWeb in any edition for the trial, or in the Studio edition for full AI control, with AI control turned on: see Turning on AI control.
- An assistant installed on your computer: Claude Desktop, ChatGPT or Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Claude Code or LM Studio. Nothing else to install: TOWeb provides everything needed.
For your first tries
Ask the assistant to create a new site rather than edit your live site: you discover how it works without any risk.
